Brief Description

The Constitutional Court of Zimbabwe made several significant rulings to enhance the protection of children from harmful cultural practices. In the Kawenda case of 2021, the Court determined that the provisions of the Criminal Code regarding sexual offences did not provide full protection to children aged 16-18 from sexual exploitation, which had contributed to harmful practices like early child marriages. As a result, the government is working to amend the Criminal Code to ensure better protection for children and address the elimination of exploitation and harmful practices.
